With the Summer holidays now here I have been busy looking for activities in the area to keep the children busy. I thought I would share them with you in the hope they will provide some inspiration.

Cardigan County Agricultural Show
Our local county show is one of the largest one day agricultural shows in Wales. Held at Briscwm Fields, Cardigan which is located on the road to Fishguard from Cardigan. There is plenty of free parking available on the field. Tickets cost £8 for adults and OAP, £3 for children. Come along and enjoy a day of demonstrations, livestock, local produce in the food hall, crafts and much more.

Monster Making (wild things) Small World Theatre at Poppit Sands
Suitable for children aged 5 years plus, choose from two sessions, either 10am to 12 midday or 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Booking is essential for this activity and costs £3 per session. Join Small World Theatre for a day of making monster heads out of recycled material at the beautiful Poppit Sands. Find your scariest roar and best monster moves to take part in the monster face off at the end of each session. Cardigan Castle – NoFit State Circus and MotionHouse
Since opening its doors to the public last year Cardigan Castle has hosted a great programme of events for all from open air theatre to children’s workshops and live concerts. On Thursday 4th August NoFit State Circus and Motionhouse will be performing their new show BLOCK in the castle as part of it’s fourteen shows across Wales this Summer. WIth two preformances in the castle, 5pm and 7.45pm this is a show suitable for all and last approximately 45 minutes. Cardigan River and Food Festival
A popular one day food festival set on the banks of the River Teifi in Cardigan. Located at the Quay car park come and help celebrate the diverse local independent food producers. We are so lucky to live in an area with some many talented suppliers from Cardigan Bay Brownies to Gwynne’s Ice Cream, Caws Cenarth Cheese and more. These are just a couple of the producers who will be there on the day. Tickets cost £2.50 for adults and £1 for children under 16 years old. There is also a free park and ride service operating from just outside the town. There will also be demonstrations on the river throughout the day. Cardigan Bay Regatta – New Quay
A three-day annual event that which sees sailing races for all ages, shore based swimming races, sandcastle building and fun events for children. Cardigan Bay Regatta is one of the oldest Regatta’s in the UK with the first one held in 1829. Why not come along and enjoy every sailing, rowing, swimming and sandcastle building event you can think of on the sea or shore.

Aberaeron Festival of Welsh Ponies and Cobs – Square Field, Aberaeron
This is quite a spectacular event showcasing the Welsh Pony and Cob. With show jumping and dressage displays, the running of the stallions and food and craft stalls. This is one of the annual events which draws crowds from all around Wales and beyond. Come along and find out more about this unique breed.

Llanerchaeron National Trust – Aberaeron
Visit Llanerchaeron situated just outside Aberaeron on the road to Lampeter and tick some of the 50 things to do before your 11 3/4. Llanerchaeron is a stunning location where you will be able to step back in time with a tour around the delightful stately house designed by commission by John Nash which was home for over three and a half centuries to the Lewis/Lewes Family. Take a stroll in the walled gardens which were built-in the late 18th century and take a look around a traditional working farm. Dyfed Shire Horse Farm in Eglwyswrw, located at the foot of the Preseli Mountains the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm offers you the chance to meet the Shire horses and other animals living on the farm from the pigs to the Llamas. Enjoy demonstrations, tractor rides and more.
Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cilgerran We are so lucky to have this centre on our doorstep and we make regular use of the facilities there, from the walks to the activities available during the holidays.
Castell Henllys, located between Eglwyswrw and Newport. We love stepping back in time to the Iron Age and exploring the Iron Age village. With lots of activities for all ages happening throughout the holidays it’s well worth a visit.
Of course we have a wealth of beaches to visit in the area too, from Poppit Sands to Mwnt, Aberporth and New Quay, there is so much here for you to discover so what are you waiting for.
