Last week I was lucky enough to win a giveaway over at The Musing Housewife. The giveaway was for a family pass to a National Trust property in Wales to do their Easter Egg Hunt. As a family we have always visited National Trust properties and my parents have always been members. We love spending time at the properties locally to us and exploring those further a field when we get the opportunity. We have done the fantastic Easter Egg hunts previously too and always thoroughly enjoyed. So entering the giveaway seemed a great thing to do for us.
I was thrilled when I received an email informing me I had won the giveaway. I decided to choose Cilgerran Castle for us to visit and to attend on Easter Monday. Cilgerran Castle is some four miles away from us and although we have not visited for about a year the boys enjoy exploring. We’re lucky enough to have several National Trust properties within about an hour of us although there are a couple we are yet to visit ( they are on our list for this year)
So yesterday morning having had breakfast and not being put off by the overcast sky we wrapped up warmly and set off the five minute drive to Cilgerran Castle. We had to park a minute or two from the castle as there is no parking on site. Once at the reception area I gave my name to the lady behind the til. Once she found our name on the guest list she asked if the boys would like to do the Easter Egg hunt, they immediately said yes. So she gave the three boys each a booklet and a felt tip pen and explained they had to find 12 differently numbered Easter eggs around the castle and mark them off. Then having done this there was a sum to work out before they could return to claim their prizes.
The boys excitedly set off in search of the numbered Easter eggs with dad of 3, while I followed with Erin in the pushchair. Cilgerran Castle is in quite an exposed spot high up over looking the banks of the River Teifi. Despite being wrapped up warm there was a biting wind which made it feel bitterly cold. So we tried to keep moving. Trystan initially hadn’t wanted to go but true to form as soon as we got there he really enjoyed hunting around for the Easter eggs. This was the first time Rowan was able to actually take part in the Easter egg hunt for himself and he loved looking around in all the knocks and crannies for the Easter eggs. Erin seemed to enjoy watching her brothers hunting around and called after them laughing from time to time.
There was a steady stream of other visitors to the castle while we were there and all the children we saw appeared to be enjoying the Easter egg hunt. After about 40 minutes the boys came rushing back to myself and Erin excitedly telling us that they had found all twelve eggs. So we went to sit on a bench in a quiet corner so they could work out the finally part of the hunt, the sum. Trystan was very quick to work out the answer and helped his brothers to do theirs.
Back at the reception area the boys handed over their completed sheets to the lady who in return let them choose an Easter egg each as a reward for completing the Easter egg hunt. Dad of 3 brought the boys a little souvenir each in the shop and we chatted with the lady about up coming events at the Castle, some of which we are hoping to attend. Ours was good too, but our local NT doesn’t have anything else for children, and there’s not many others near us which is a shame.
