At the beginning of the month we experienced some glorious weather here in West Wales. I love this time of year as it makes it so much easier to get the children outdoors and making the most of the beaches and countryside and opportunities to explore and learn.
So when it started to warm up I wasted no time in heading out and making the most of it. Here is what we got up to….
An impromptu trip to one of our favourite beaches with Rowan, Erin and the little one I was minding that day. As soon as spring appears I pop a waterproof picnic rug in the car along with a pop up sunshade which makes last minute trips easier. So grabbing suncream, hats, snacks and drinks we enjoyed an hour on the beach building sandcastles and looking for shells and bits of drift wood before the sun became too hot and the beach too crowded.
The next day we visited our local Children’s Centre were they were going down to the river to feed the swans and ducks. We’ve not done this for a while but it reminded me that this simplest of activities provided so much joy and laughter and also the chance to teach the children about different ducks and birds.
The weekend dawned full of sunshine and again we wasted no time in packing up the car and heading out to explore. It also coincided with my weekly quinny casters challenge which that week was to discover three places you’d not been to before. You can read about it here

On the Saturday one of the locations we visited was the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, just outside Carmarthen. We arrived around 3.30pm having been somewhere before hand. There was so much to see there but we had an enjoyable two hours wondering around some of the different areas and looking at the different plants/flowers and wildlife.
Then on the Sunday we headed out again but only 20 minutes away to Castell Henllys Iron Age fort. Where we enjoyed a leisurely walk up to the site of the fort where we explored the various huts and learnt about life living in them. They were surprisingly very functional and looked quite comfortable. The older boys said they would be happy to try living in one!
We had so much fun and learnt so much over the course of five days. We can’t wait for the sun to make an appearance again and we hope it stays a bit longer.
Wow very busy! It’s great having the sunshine. I love trying new places too and try every so often to push myself.
You’ve certainly made the most of the sunshine and visited some gorgeous places, the botanical gardens remind me of The Eden Project here in
