Keeping your carpets clean is no easy task.

Having young children and being a childminder one of the things I struggle most with is keeping my carpets clean. I have to admit having beige carpets in the living areas is not ideal but when we moved in here almost two years ago we decided new carpets were not a priority to replace. With hindsight maybe we should have taken that plunge and replaced them before we had all the furniture in place.
All the children are at that stage where they often drop food and drink on the floor by accident. Which results in little or big black marks left on the carpet. I have gone through the process of buying carpet shampoo that you can use by hand and then spent hours on hands and knees, damp cloth and sponging each individual mark. One of the problems with this is finding a time to do it when all four children are not around. Usually it ends up been one of those jobs reserved for when they are all in bed but it is so time consuming and not something I relish the idea of after a long day.
There are places were you can hire carpet cleaners for a 24 or 48 hour time periods. We’ve hired one from our local DIY store. This was such a better experience than doing it by hand. One downside was collecting the machine and returning it. You also may have to reserve a machine in advance if the store only has one or two machines available. I personally have to be in the right frame of mind for cleaning the carpets as it involves moving furniture around which is a time consuming task.
Dad of 3 and myself have been discussing the possibility of buying a carpet cleaner of our own as it would make more sense financially for us. So we have been spending some time looking at the different options available. My mother in law swears by her Vax and thinks we should look at getting one too. So we have been looking at the selection of carpet washers from Vax. They are available in a range of prices so there is bound to be one that is affordable. I noticed when we were looking on the website there was also a selection of cleaning solutions available for use with the Vax machines, which makes it easy to get everything you need to get started. I personally like the look of the Vax Powermax Carpet Washer, its lightweight and easy to use according to the description. Something that is a big plus for me. Now all I need to do is convince dad of 3 that buying our own carpet washer really is the way forward. If you would like to have a look at the carpet washers available please visit TJ Hughes

We are lucky enough to have laminated flooring all the way through downstairs I can’t imagine having carpets not with the amount my two spill…lol

My word I can only agree! We had almost the whole place laminated but the front room – just because it’s nice for special occasions. Thanks for the really informative post mummy. I think I might start trying to do more stuff on my own like this instead of getting in professional companies. I don’t mind them or anything, (I’ve been using carpet cleaner birmingham and carpet cleaner sutton coldfield recently with no complaints… if you would prefer someone to just come and do it for you and you can afford it then I’d say go for it) but I love the idea of doing something more green. Great post, thanks again 🙂

  2. With kids and pets at home it is really difficult to keep the carpet clean always. Make vacuuming the carpets part of your Sunday chore routine and you will stay on top of the dirt that threatens to make your carpets dirty over time. When you see a spot or you spill something on your carpet, clean it immediately. You may also like to consider, professional carpet cleaning Toronto which can be highly effective when cleaning dirt carpets.
