Talking to children about Online casinos and gaming.

This post is a bit different from my usual post but it’s one I felt needed writing.  The older two boys have started noticing advertisements for online casinos and gaming over the last few weeks.  These are mostly in the form of pop ups when they are online.  But they have started to ask questions as a result of these adverts, about online casinos and other games.  Of course it’s only natural for them to ask questions about the things they see or hear and it’s something we encourage as we feel it’s important for our children to make informed decisions.  So I look the older two and my laptop and we sat and did some research about online casinos and games.

We discovered there are many reasons people use online casinos, from wanting to earn some extra money to playing for fun and some people even review the sites.  With the internet being so readily available 24 7 it does make online casinos and gaming more accessible and this is something that might be appealing to some.  Maybe they are housebound or work shifts that make it difficult to get out in person so they use the internet as a way of connecting.  A lot of people feel they are more convenient as they can play from the comfort of their home wearing whatever they like.  Where as  most casinos you visit in person have dress codes.  There is also an element of anonymity when playing online and the fact you are not interacting with people face to face.  Then there are other people who like the fact you can play a variety of games and some that may not be available in a traditional casino.

As I said there are many reasons for using online casino’s and there are so many online casinos available it can be hard to know which one is for you. But there are sites that can provide internet casino help.  I think it’s worth spending some time researching sites and then maybe trying a few out to see if its for you.  Before you give it a go I would suggest setting yourself a limit to spend and sticking to it.  I personally don’t see using them an issue if you are using them from time to time and are sticking to a budget.

I know some people will say that gambling is addictive and yes I think it can be so you need to be aware of this fact when using them.  I do think that you can gamble without it becoming a problem or getting addicted but I felt it was important to tell the boys it is a possibility.   I did spend some time talking to the boys about online safety and the fact that they should not be thinking about using casinos of any kind until they are 18 years old.  As I said at the start of this post, I wanted to give the boys as much information as I could and I hope I’ve achieved that.
