UK Winter Breaks

With Winter now upon us thoughts often turn to warmer climates. But you don’t need to go abroad to enjoy yourselves. Right here in the UK there is a variety of breaks you can take throughout the Winter providing the perfect opportunity to get away fro:m it all, explore a new region or even do your Christmas shopping. Here are some ideas
Country Escape
There are some really fantastic country breaks that you can go on all over the UK, from Wales, to Cornwall, to the Lake District and Scotland. What better way to spend a few days relaxing in the run up to Christmas. Why not get out into the countryside and enjoy the fresh air and stunning scenery. Country breaks are fantastic for families and couples alike. A lot of country breaks offer a variety of activities from spa packages to activity days so you are bound to find something to suit everyone. Wentbridge House Hotel in West Yorkshire is one Country hotel offering relaxing breaks and a host of events ideal for couples. While places like Bluestone in Pembrokeshire and the National Trust offer a variety of accommodation for those wanting to get active.
Christmas Shopping
One thing worth considering this time of year is a Christmas shopping break. One of those places that lets you combine shopping and relaxing is London. London has everything from theatres, galleries, shopping centres and lots of boutique shops. What could be nicer than indulging in some retail therapy and taking in the sights during the day before stepping out for a relaxing meal or to see a West End Show. St George’s Hotel on Regent Street is in a perfect location for indulging in this. The hustle and bustle of Christmas markets and shops with windows dressed in Christmas scenes are bound to bring delight to both young and old.
Coastal Jaunt
The coast can be an idyllic location in the Winter. There is something warming about a stroll along the beach with loved ones. We often spend time on beaches this time of year. One stunning coastal location to explore is Ox Pasture Hall in Scarborough Perfect for breaks away after Christmas. After returning from your stroll you can warm yourselves up with afternoon tea by a roaring fire.  Drinking mulled wine and eating mince pies really makes for a lovely end to a day.
New Year Breaks
Something we have spoken about on a couple of occasions is seeing in the New Year in Edinburgh. It’s somewhere we have never visited and I love the idea of exploring Scottish history by day and joining in Hogmanay on New Year’s Eve. There are so many hotels to choose from in Edinburgh. Maybe you would prefer to stay closer to home yet would like to see in the New Year in one of the UK’s nightspots. If this is the case a trip to Cardiff, Manchester or Liverpool would be right for you. Offering a variety of venues hosting New Year celebrations.
Post Christmas Detox
There are a whole host of places offering spa and detox breaks for helping you detox after indulging over Christmas. These range from Country based to city based and offer the chance for relaxing with treatments and strolls in the grounds.  I love the idea of a post Christmas break, the idea of getting away and relaxing after days of visiting friends and family.
